They come back every year! A proper mix of perennials in any garden can display color throughout the entire growing season and they can be enjoyed year after year.  Hardiness zones help to determine if a plant is considered a perennial in your area.  Keep in mind that a plant can be a perennial in some areas and an annual in a different location of the country.  Perennials can be divided, moved and even used for erosion control.
